We’re sure that you have heard of minimalism before. It’s quite the talk these days. But while minimalism has entered our lives with respect to food, clothing and homes; there’s one space that’s left forgotten - your finances. Yep! We’re talking about Marie Kondo-ing your money!

Clean up your act now ✨

For most of us, minimalism is about owning lesser clothes and living in smaller houses - and yes, to a certain extent you’re right. (10 points to Gryffindor!) But what if we told you that minimalism is a way of life and is applicable to just about anything in your life?

Simply put, it is a way of getting rid of everything in your life that doesn’t add value or serve a purpose. These could include possessions, thoughts, people, circumstances, etc.

Easy, peasy? Minimalism is a way of letting go of our emotional attachments to objects and instead focusing on more real, important aspects in life.

However, everyone has a different path to minimalism. What is important to you might not be important to someone else. But, everyone’s minimalist lifestyle works towards the same goal – a simplified life with more meaning filled with more time, freedom and money.

What does this mean for you? 👀

The very first path to minimalism is your mindset when it comes to your money and how you spend it. Which is probably the most important thing to get started with.

Take time to understand the difference between a want and a need, and you will learn to prioritise what is truly important to you and what you choose to spend your money on.

  1. Snip it all out ✂️: When you focus on what matters the most to you, it will change what you spend your money on. You will be able to cut out excess expenses without feeling that pinch! People often assume that minimalism is all about not being allowed to spend. That’s not true. Minimalism is about choosing what to spend on and truly finding meaning behind making those purchases.

  2. Keep bad decisions at bay 🌊: One of the most significant changes minimalism brings in your life is that it helps you avoid making bad decisions with money. This means that you’re not spending unnecessarily, and that in turn will leave you with extra cash. Since you won’t cut back on spending on things that truly matter to you, it’s a win-win!

  3. Declutter that headspace and budget like a pro 🤚🏽: Don’t throw things away. That’s not what we’re saying. You could hand them down or give them to people who need it, so it’s not just about the money, but about living a wholesome life. Once you’ve done that, you’ll notice that your budget gets simpler to chalk out. Lesser things on the list.
